158. Cause Harry Potter was written around 30-40 years after LotR. I agree with you though, but that's pretty much why. Intelligent, modern self made British woman vs. Catholic dude brought up during 1950's culture.

Well, it's more of a "Distract me until my migraine/sleeping pills kick in" sort of comfort. XD; I've found at an early age that it's easier to just sleep through it if I can't puke right away. I don't seem to get as many as when I was little, though, so that's good.

Wrong. LotR was written from 1937 to 1949 with much of it during WWII by a man who served during WWI. The series was published in the 50s and was given a spin by the 60s counterculture.

My point still stands though, as Harry Potter was written during a much more culturally open minded time period than LotR was.

to be honest though, it's like comparing apples to kiwis. so it's a bit unfair to harry potter to compare it to something as epic and profound as lotr.

I'm not quite sure I understand what the point you're trying to make with that is. Could you elaborate?

I feel like Harry Potter is a better book because J.K. Rowling is a more modern author than J. R. Tolkein, and I feel like characters in the HP series are more fleshed out, and more human in many cases than characters in LotR. Also, besides Eowyn, useful and powerful women in LotR seem few and far between. That's just my opinion though, and I do love both series. >.> I just prefer HP. :B

I see your point, but I can't agree. That's like saying that Oscar Wilde is a better playwright then William Shakespeare because he's more modern (Just an example, folks!). It's a fairly fallacious argument, frankly.

you spelled it right. and yeah, he wasn't enough for gabs. neither was perdicrap. but that's another issue i won't get into right now cuz then i'll be talking for a while. and as for xena...i still think the only person who could ever "handle" her is gabrielle.
