I'm just echoing the consensus on /m/ and elsewhere in the mecha fandom that shit like Sky Girls or Strike Witches barely qualifies as a mecha series and doesn't deserve to be compared to something like Gundam. Last time I checked Gundam didn't have loli catgirls flying around in their underwear.

Because I hate a shit series, I'm as bad as the OP? Whatever.

You are because you obviously didn't even bother to watch the series. You're just parroting someone else's opinion and spitting venom at something you barely even know about.

The OP surely could have said it differently, but Strike Witches IS a great series. I personally don't mind the fanservice, as much as series that are solely based on that (like Sky Girls, and by putting SW and SG on the same level you proved you don't know a thing about both), and Strike Witches isn't. The plot is simple but well-written, and the characters have well-defined personalities and are so much more than flying butts clad in panties. I personally found some of them compelling and inspirational, even.

I can't take stances on the likes of GL and 00, myself, and the OP sure wasn't being fair to who likes those series, but that is still ever so slightly better than your misinformed, venomous, biased keyboard mashing.

I don't like Gundam 00 or Gurren Lagaan that much, either. Those are not "nostalgia" shows. I mean, what the fuck was OP smoking. If you think those are held to a high standard by mecha fans, you're wrong. They just get talked about frequently because they're new. Doesn't mean everyone who is into mecha likes those shows, quite the opposite actually.

A shitty fanservice show with lolis based on real WWII flying aces isn't what I would consider a great series. Your premise destroyed any inkling of what would be a great series and has firmly placed it in the /a/ category. If I wanted a good anime about airplane pilots I would rather watch something decent like the Area 88 OVA.

JESUS CHRIST just watch something actually good for once, then re-examine your beloved show. Fuck.

Well, if the "cute young girls and fanservice = pure shit" equation is so ingrained in your brain, I've got nothing else to say. The more I look at you, the more you seem so mired in prejudice and pent-up frustration it would take me several years to shape you into a decent human being. Granted, if that was possible at all.
