You know what? No. Tolkien and Lord of the Rings was popular before Harry Potter was a gleam in Rowling's eye. It got popular back in the '60s and '70s, which is why the movies came about in the first place! Peter Jackson read them when he was younger. It's why so many people went to see the movies. It spawned the entire modern fantasy genre and probably influenced (whether directly or indirectly) some of Rowling's work.

And no! Rowling does not hold a candle to Tolkien! Tolkien was a veteran of the First World War, a Professor of Anglo-Saxon and English Language and Literature at Oxford. He invented whole languages and cultures, he made an entirely new world and mythology, with gods, creatures, spirits, and geography.

Lord of the Rings is the definitive modern fantasy epic and will shine on far longer then Rowling's work.

I won't argue Tolkien's impact and the significance of his work, but for the love of God and all that is holy, stop sucking the man's dick so hard.
