Wow, that's a whole lot of aggression.

Liking Xena/Ares doesn't mean I am a homophobic ass. I don't 'break up' Xena/Gabrielle - who I don't view as a canonical couple, hence the quotation marks, they aren't to denigrate lesbian couples - for the purpose of stamping a big 'NOW WITH EXTRA HETERONORMATIVITY!' label on Xena/Ares. It just means I prefer their character dynamic as a couple (I write Xena/Callisto too), just as I prefer the character dynamic of f/f or m/m in other instances.

Individual works have the possibility of coming off as patronising - as a 'fix up those darn lesbians who just haven't found the right man yet, oh look here he is' thing, but I don't think it's inherently a shit thing to think that a fandom pairing shouldn't have a sacred DO NOT TOUCH DO NOT ALTER PERMANENT OTP sign just because it's gay or lesbian.

It's fucking fandom, give it twenty minutes and someone will have broken up all established relationships in a given series and paired up everyone with squid~
