What is everyone doing this weekend?

I am throwing my sisters' birthday party. Unfortunately, I seem to have gotten a cold or stomach bug today. I hope I am better by tomorrow to enjoy the delicious cake.

Starting the first day of my new job tomorrow, which is actually the same as my old job, just full time and at a different location. I’m glad I kind of get to ease into it—I’m temporarily assigned to a location a lot closer to home while the location I’m actually supposed to be at is being renovated.

Which is good, because the place being remodeled is so far away by public transit that getting there will be almost another full time job—40 hour workweek plus 28 hours on the bus. I would’ve turned it down, but over ten years ago, I was offered another job with the same organization that would’ve been miserable as far as transit goes, and said no. (I can’t drive and spent almost a decade trying to learn, but my reflexes and response time suck.)

Which is one of the reasons it took them so long to promote me. I honestly don’t know why they bother asking where people would like to work, unless it’s just to make sure they don’t offer positions at any of their employees’ choices. I wish it was all one bus or trolley ride so I could relax or nap, but on some days it’s four transfers each way.

I'm sorry you have such a horrible commute facing you. Good luck with the new job though.

That sucks. :( Can you carpool? Do you listen to podcasts or anything on your ride?

AYRT—I don’t think anyone at my new job lives anywhere near me. I don’t listen to podcasts, but I foresee using some of my full time paychecks to buy more ebooks. Kind of hoping I find a new fandom with a lot of great fic before the new location opens. Maybe I’ll try embroidering again. My fine motor control is awful, but maybe if I persevere I can go from “concussed toddler” to merely bad.

Make sure to see if your local library uses Overdrive. Then you can rent free audiobooks. :D

AYRT— we don’t use Overdrive, I’ve just run through most of my favorite authors on CloudLibrary. (I guess I should’ve said, new job, old job, every job I’ve ever had has been at a library.)

I have the weekend off and I am going to take it easy. Mostly I think I'll watch TV and play The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince, which is something I bought because there was a secret about it here.

I might go to the Tanabata Festival in Little Tokyo if I can convince myself to get out of my apartment.

Thanks. It is two of my sister's birthdays! One was born 8-11 and one 8-12 (6 years apart).

That festival looks like a lot of fun! Unless it is super hot. Then it looks miserable.

Happy Birthday to both of them, then. It's not supposed to go much above 80 degrees F so it should be pleasant. I just hope I motivate myself to do something besides stay home and watch TV.

Taking it easy since my foot is bad an I couldn't get a doctor's appointment until August 23. Watching some tv- either Sanctuary or Vikings. Job applications. Lots of sleep.

What is wrong with your foot? If you posted on here I may have missed it.

Not sure actually. Just a couple weeks ago started getting pain in my left heel. It has steadily gotten worse. Now it is intense pain whenever I put weight on that foot. I've gotten a referral to a podiatrist, but he doesn't have a free appointment available until August 23.

My youngest nephew's coming to visit for several days so we're getting ready for that. Other than that, I'm trying to avoid loneliness because I think a thirty-year friendship of mine has ended.

I'm meant to be packing to go away tomorrow, but it's pissing with rain and I just don't want to do anything but sit in front of the heater and write fan fic.

Nothing better to do in the rain than relax!

Appointment to fix it us Tuesday. So probably being productive and going outside are in my future this weekend! :P

I just got back this evening from a two week work trip, so I've got laundry and chores to do. Maybe I'll go to the farmers market tomorrow.

Oh man, that sucks. When my internet goes out I get so bored.

Our state is being hit by a Polar Blast at the moment. Yesterday it snowed during a game of our national sport for the first time in its 100+ year history.

Tomorrow we're going to stay in and make pancakes and minestrone soup.

I am feeling a bit better now! At least I am not nauseous.

I wish we had a polar blast. I am too dang hot.
