I know it can sometimes be hard not to let something that viscerally affects you, even if it is fictional, influence your behavior and thinking. Even if you know it's statistically unlikely (the average US person is more than 2 times as likely to get killed in a car accident than be murdered, about 3.3 times more likely to be killed by accidental poisoning than be murdered, and about 43.8 times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than be murdered, according to 2017 CDC stats). Yes, it happens, but thinking it happens a majority of the time is not true and also a terrible way to go through life. Maybe lay off SVU for a while.
