I think it's still there, just not as overt. Like, the newest Thrawn books mention it. The groundwork is still there if they want to expand on it. The Empire/First Order are still almost completely human, while the Resistance/Rebellion are mixed.

One of the things that I was most hoping for was to see xenophobia in Finn. The way he reacts to Chewie and BB8 felt to me like it was a possibility they could explore if they wanted to.

Frankly, the only reason I have a problem with some of them is because, well, what happened to original or even semi original live action movies.

There's a sequel to a spinoff of the baddest villain in October (I say that with respect bc I love Maleficent).

I really enjoyed Aladdin, and it's not as if the old ones are gone.

I think there's a place for both types of storytelling, but I'll look elsewhere for creative material; Not toward Disney.
