I have Asperger's Syndrome.

I have been under treatment my whole youth, and I remember having troubles looking at people in the eyes or going past practiced phrases, while also being obsessed with the things I researched about. People barely tell now I used to have this. I can pass off as neurotypical for the most part.

I wholeheartedly believe this character has Asperger's Syndrome.

She hits so close to home, I feel no other character in fiction has come close to how I've felt like than her. I know it was probably not the creator's intention, and AS headcanons are heavily frowned upon. But she makes me so happy to see.

I have Asperger's too and I didn't know until just now that Asperger's headcanons are heavily frowned upon. I have a couple of them.

They aren't, or not in any fandom I've ever been in. It's "this character HAS AS and if you don't agree you are an ableist, oppressive shit, personally responsible for me feeling bad that not everyone sees it the way I do and should fucking DIAF" that's the problem.

I'm unfamiliar with this anime, but I'm glad she makes you happy, OP. It's always awesome when you find a character who really speaks to you.

Even though it probably wasn't the writers' intention to sit down and say "We're going to give this character Asperger's Syndrome!", if you can relate that strongly to her symptoms, there's a high chance that she was intentionally given traits the writers had seen in real people with Asperger's, even if the writers didn't know they had it.

I have generalized anxiety disorder and I see the same thing in some characters. I know the writers didn't write them with GAD in mind, but I'm positive they were written that way because the writers knew people with GAD. People write what they know whether they have a name for it or not.

I'm curious what characters you have in mind here (for reasons) (definitely not looking for characters I can relate to)

Barclay from Star Trek: The Next Generation. He's not a very well-liked character for other (understandable) reasons, but I burst into tears at the beginning of the episode "Hollow Pursuits" because it was exactly like watching myself when my anxiety is at its worst.

Kenma from Haikyuu!! is another one I really relate to. Some other fans have said they HC Yamaguchi and Yachi from the same series as having anxiety too, and I can see it although I don't relate to their behaviors as much. But anxiety is different for everyone, so maybe you would.

I don't think it's so much that autistic headcanons are looked down on, but the way a lot of people have them and attack other people for not having the same headcanon, and say that their headcanon is actually canon. There were quite a lot of fics about Matt Murdock from Netflix MCU being autistic (just an example from one of my fandoms) and I never saw any complaints about that.

THIS. Same as any other headcanon; as long as the headcanoner acknolwedges the difference, everyone is cool.
