Haven't seen the movie but when he adopted the Ronin persona in the comics he chose different weapons and fighting styles to mask his identity.

Where does the cultural appropriation thing start and end with weapons? We all use different forms of the same thing. Are we mad that he's a better archer than the Egyptians because they did it first?

Is archery as strongly identified as part of Egyptian culture the way katanas and ronin are to Japanese culture?

Yeah but if they go out of his way to show him using a katana, I feel like the "different forms of the same thing" argument slightly falls apart. I mean, what's the reasoning behind that, if not appropriating a very specific mythical version of Japanese culture?

I'm not into cancel culture about ~cultural appropriation~ or anything, but it's not really the weapons that are the problem. I don't think wearing certain clothes or eating certain foods is appropriation. However calling him Ronin... which is definitely a Japanese thing... is kind of...

On top of the fact he's like in Japan and killing the Yakuza and stuff while speaking Japanese. He could have been anywhere else, but they had to go all out with the Japanese persona.
