Not OP and I think I’m too possessive to be poly or share a S.O., but on the other hand, maybe the bad parts of a relationship can be easier to deal with if multiple partners take turns dealing with them? Idk.

I'm personally not fond of them because their personality is basically a blank slate™ (yes, I know "no shit, Sherlock") and they never choose a girl (or the whole harem) nor he rejects them so the wishy washy attitude can get tiresome after seeing it for the 23424208034583495th time through the span of many episodes. But yeah, I guess it's better than asshole protagonist who gets forgiven for his shitty attitude because he's the MC. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Another instance where anons can't into anime again; OP's secret isn't that odd. Bell Cranel from DanMachi is pretty cute, if you haven't already watched OP.

I think in many instances people are attracted to characters in media that are not "supposed to be the focus" of the show. Like people who go nuts for self-insert otome protagonist characters designs when the male love interests are supposed to be where all the screentime is, or the designated-bros to the male leads in harem anime.

Well, he's not exactly a generic harem protagonist. There was just a love triangle.
I would be less bleh about the harem genre if it was:
1. More gender diverse (I read a lot of fic/have watched some stuff where the guys seem more like they have chemistry with the protag)
2. More just polyamory.
