I literally felt part of my soul DIE during that scene, and it just dragged on and on and I hated every excruciating second of it.

Just THINKING about it makes me want to die. I can't believe anyone actually human watched that back and thought "yup, that belongs in our final cut!"

Tbh that along with all the really unnecessary fat-jokes with Thor are the main reasons that outside of the battle-scenes and some character-moments, I'm not going to rewatch the full length of it. For the 3 hours it was it felt ridiculously padded with random-ass scenes.

I'm really surprised so many people are on board with fat!Thor. I know that it does have its critics as well, but even allowing for "you can still be the hero and not look perfect" as a narrative some of the lines said about him were still too much and arguably cruel. I also really don't like his mother saying "eat a salad" - I feel like nobody knows how to write Frigga as it is, but that line made it worse for me.

The 3 hour run time totally isn't justified when you think about some of the things that added to that run time. I feel like I'm in another universe when I see people saying it "needed" 3 hours. Really? It "needed" it? And that's what they did with it... ok whatever.

If it was meant to be a 'you can still be a hero and not look perfect' narrative then it fell hideously flat because the movie was making fun of him the whole damn time because he wasn't 'hot' anymore, like it wasn't even a little bit subtle about that and it rankled my nerves the whole way through.

He got two cool weapons at the end though so at least he had a small moment or two of not being ridiculed by every character in the room.

It really wasn't and I feel like the only reason they did it was to stroke their own egos, because when I got out of it all I could think was how overly bloated the movie was. It was 3 hours long and by fuck I felt every second of those 3 hours. (Pppst MCU peeps, u ain't LoTR)

I'm glad when others say this because as someone who has never been obviously overweight I felt it wasn't my place to say anything, yet it still felt like Thor's arc was more on the "lol he's fug now!" side than empowering people who have struggled with their body image. Like, I get the empowering interpretation, it's just the film doesn't really back it up?

I don't relate to the people who say those 3 hours flew by. I too felt like I was experiencing every second of that run time. I accept it was partially because I'd already mentally checked out after some of the bullshit justifications for events in IW but still. At least IW had a decent pace even if I didn't like some of the narrative choices.

If people find it empowering then I won't rain on their parade but... that wasn't what the narrative was telling me at all sadly, it should have however. How neat would that have been? But I'm also not overweight so I'll absolutely leave it for those that are to feel how they want about it.

For me IW was better structured as an actual story and while it was the usual 2.5 hours I didn't feel that so much, Endgame felt like 'the MCU's Greatest Hits' with a story loosely strung around it to make some semblance of sense. Like don't get me wrong the Greatest Hits moments I enjoyed I enjoyed a lot, but imo so much of that movie could have been cut-down and restructured to make it flow better.

It bothered me, but as a fat person, I don't feel comfortable talking about how I feel about it honestly.

I understand that completely and I'd never ask you or expect you to speak up just for additional dialogue over this. It makes you unhappy to talk about and that is more than enough reason for you to bow-out.

Sadly, I feel like they were going for something else, entirely.

It absolutely ended up being a story thread where they make fun of the fat (and depressed) guy, but given how it was presented and how they've talked about it since, I think they intended something different. I think they did want it to be part of the humor of the movie, but I think they also kind of wanted to subvert some the MCU Thor narrative and take a jab at the audience, since so much had been made (in canon or out) of Thor's and Hemsworth's looks. Like the Cap's ass thing, only they took this much further. Either way, it was a terrible idea.
