Yeah. I feel the same way about many of the decisions in the LOTR movies, and I enjoyed them a lot. It just seemed like the script writers had some weird logic behind why they felt they had to do this or that and it usually had to do with adding suspense or whatever. It's as though they didn't really trust their audience's intelligence or attention span, which... well okay, fair enough if you're making a blockbuster.
