It's on CBS All Access, a platform that has very, very, very few subscribers, it won't.

I forgot that CBS has money from Netflix streaming their shows internationally. But the show will probably still look cheap.

The whole reason to make shows like this is to be a loss-leader to get people to subscribe to the platform so that, down the road, they can compete directly with Netflix.

IDK if that means that they're going to actually give it a budget but it would be penny-wise and pound-foolish to cheap out on it.

It’s also one of very few originals they’re doing, so I was wondering how it shakes out.

If you're going to have California doubling for other places, a California vineyard doubling for a French vineyard is honestly pretty reasonable.

I care, and I'd prefer to see that too.

Pfft.

We all know the entire planet and all of space and time looks like 1) California, 2) New Zealand, or 3) a gravel pit somewhere in England.

This is incredibly insulting to Toronto and British Columbia.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-19 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh shit! I forgot about all the places that look like British Columbia!

(Anonymous) 2019-08-19 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Or Georgia. Marvel movies? Georgia. Stranger Things? Georgia. Disney had my street shut down for location shoots for one of their direct-to-streaming movies.

Croatia too. Super popular recently for movie backgrounds.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-20 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
And Ireland too

(Anonymous) 2019-08-20 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we have, at least, established that nowhere looks like France, not even France :P

I really just hope Picard fails completely and miserably.

To be fair, the majority of people who would watch don't have a clue what France 'really' looks like, so.....

True, I'm not from North America so I had no idea that X-Files was shot in Vancouver rather than wherever it was supposed to be this week. I just thought that Washington DC and area had a lot of temperate rainforest and ferns! Though I was a bit more suspicious when all the alien planets on SG-1 looked like that too...

Heee. Yeah, watching Supernatural and they're in Texas or Kansas and there are evergreens everywhere makes you kinda roll your eyes but...oh well. :D

(Anonymous) 2019-08-20 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you ever been to a vineyard in France? Sorry, bud, but it looks like California.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who's been to both places, this. It's different if they're going to be showing cityscapes, but if it's just vineyard shots...
