I've read the book and seen the film and always thought there was a level of misogyny to the way she was portrayed. I have no issue with female villains (Kathy Bates in Misery was amazing!) in fact would love more! But, to me there was a level of wanting to hate on her specifically as the woman. Remember, the Jack Nicholson character had raped an underaged girl so not a nice guy. Doesn't mean that he deserves to be treated badly but I got the impression we were meant to be completely rooting for him. I dunno, to me should have been more nuance to both the book and film.
The tv series therefore will be interesting. She can be evil/bad etc fine as long as she's a complex character.
