(Anonymous) 2019-08-24 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)I did read a fic years ago where one half of the pairing was HIV positive. If memory serves the author worked using condoms naturally into the sex scenes, so it can be done well.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-25 09:49 am (UTC)(link)Haha, no, but of the pairing in question one is half demon and the other sort-of half angel, so it's close! (The fandom is Shadowhunters)

(Anonymous) 2019-08-25 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)honestly with those two it makes sense, one has literal magic so he can use that to clean up and avoid all that messy irl aspect of it, plus they're both half-human so i go with the idea that neither of them can really contract human diseases so you don't need to worry about STD's either.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)Right? One fic author always has them using condoms and it takes me out of the story. I feel it would be a big design flaw if the angel-blooded warrior race meant to protect all humanity from the forces of evil could contract a mundane human disease. And for warlocks, it seems even more implausible that they could contract a mundane disease. So yeah, I headcanon them as sort of STD-resistant as well.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-25 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)if a ship is both human, or in a real-world setting then the logical part of my brain actually kind of wants condom use? sometimes anyway. but with these two i really don't care, and even kind of prefer it bc i like the added intimacy and trust of them bare-backing, and they can magic it away so no issue for the logical side of my brain!
i can't say i've noticed that, but i also really don't keep tabs on who's writing what fic unless they've written something i REALLY didn't like or i think they're writing's shit, but i have seen it crop up sometimes in fic and i'm always like 'nah', not enough to make me dislike the fic but i internally edit the fic in my head for no condom bc i like them not using one.
