For me, condom use depends on the fandom/setting/ship.

Fantasy setting? Demisexual virgins? Nonhumans who don't have the same biology and risk of disease? Set so far in the past that modern condoms don't exist and what does exist is grosser than no condom at all? Then it's more likely to take me out of the action for a condom to be used.

M/M ship set in the eighties having sex for the first time? You better believe I'll backbutton if there's not at least a brief actual discussion of condoms/safe sex, though I'm okay with the characters not using one if they talk it out and decide the risk is negligible because of prior abstinence/celibacy/virginity or recent test, and because they trust each other.

It just depends a lot for me, it has to be what's right for those characters and make sense for the world they live in.
