not the op. but I have to say that the way the Japanese write their female characters doesn't endear me to them at all. I don't like a great many of them because they are whiny, bitchy, bully, abusive cunts.

I don't hate real life women, nor do I hate myself (as I am also one). I just don't like the Japanese portrayal of 'the perfect woman/wife/girlfriend/mother'. THEY are the ones misogynistic.

Yes, a lot of Japanese portrayals of women suck.

If you're a fanfic artist/writer, you should be able to reinvent characters and give them new life. There's no excuse for perpetuating the misogyny. The Japanese mangaka may not know how to make their female characters lifelike, but that's not the characters fault. It's up to you to step up to bat, and if you can't handle, then FAIL.

Never mind the fact that a lot of the time, this shitty treatment of women in yaoi/slash fanfiction includes pretty awesome female characters too. Personally, I think it usually points to the female author being terrified and intimidated by other women, which is just pitiful and sad.

The problem with this is the fact that the OP comes out and says she doesn't like most female characters because "yes, you know what, they DO get in the way of my OTPs." Which says nothing about their characterization, just "ew ew ew girlz in the way of mai hawt bishies!!"

And not all anime/manga females fall into the categories you list. Not by a long shot. Sadly, a lot of the time fangirls of the type the OP seems to be saying she is look for reasons to hate any female characters, whereas the reasons they list for doing so, when they are shown in a male character, they fangirl over the male and try to pair him up into a Tru Love OTP Forever.

I'm not saying this happens all the time, but dayam, it sounds as if the OP is saying that and going "WHY DO YOU PERSECUTE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" because of it. Which is just. Annoying, especially as a yaoi fan who doesn't pull that bullshit and is suck and tired of being made to look bad.
