I don't think I've ever seen an example of this, but this is how I feel about some "Character is a Vampire" fics I've encountered, where the fic just re-hashes canon without change, except that the author wants the reader to know that one of the characters is secretly (or not) a vampire (or werewolf or something) but no vampire stuff is happening and it's not affecting the story... and if that ever changes I wouldn't know because I've given up reading by then! If I wanted to read a transcript I'd just go find a transcript to read!

It seems like what we’re both complaining about goes under https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheStationsOfTheCanon, though that’s a broader concept.
