Re: Movie Length

I was gonna say I'd never seen a good movie over 150 min, and then I checked and WTF? Return of the King was 200 minutes long! And the extended edition added 50 to that!
And I also enjoyed Seven Samurai, which was about the same (mind you, I watched that at home, where toilet breaks and snack breaks are a lot easier). Two Towers and Fellowship were both around 180; The Great Escape was like 170, and I liked that too.

I don't think of myself as a very patient person, but I guess if a movie is good enough (read, is sufficiently to my tastes) I'll sit through a lot.

At the other end of the scale, let's see...
Toy Story and Beauty and the Beast are both around 80-85 minutes, My Neighbor Totoro likewise; The Lion King is about 90; and The Princess Bride and Up are both in the 90s.

So like I said - I don't really have any hard rules, but I am a lot less likely to see a movie over 120 if I don't have a special reason to.

IMO the Lord of the Rings movies actually were too long which is why the proper home for them would have been television.

Unfortunately the idea of high-budget epic fantasy television obviously did not exist at the time.
