I still think it has its place. "We reached out to BigCorp for comment, but have not heard back" is common in news, and has a pretty useful meaning there. Whereas "we tried to get a hold of BigCorp" is pretty awkward

On the other hand words like "synergy" and all that business jargon is literally made up to sound fancy and doesn't have useful meanings to contribute
