I don't entirely agree with your position. Over the course of the series, Betsy always has trouble balancing her writing with her social life. Therefore, it seems in character for her to throw herself into being a housewife as a newlywed. I think the series ends with her starting a new novel, so it's clear she isn't giving up on writing.

The "must marry off Tib" subplot was irritating though.

Does Joe's treatment of Betsy bother anyone else? The books explain why he has such a huge chip on his shoulder, but he's such an asshole every time he feels the slightest hint of rejection that I wish he would have apologized to Betsy. Don't get me wrong-- she makes mistakes too, and he mostly grows out of it by the time they graduate, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
