Yeah, I’ve been in fandom for decades, and trolling has basically always been about mocking people for their emotional investment in fiction, which boils down to mocking people for being in fandom.

If the OP is telling the truth that they only post unpopular fan opinions that they don’t share and watch the abuse come flooding in their inbox, what’s the point? How would they feel if they posted all their own unpopular fan opinions and got death threats for them? If their content gets lots of reblogs in support from actual fans, how is that different from running a fanblog for a fandom they’re not in?

And, honestly, if they posted their actual fandom opinions on a blog somewhere, I’m sure they’d attract their share of hate and death threats (possibly from trolls, who knows?) because I don’t think I’ve ever seen an opinion, fandom or not, that didn’t piss someone off.
