Go-to relaxing things

[personal profile] philstar22 2019-08-29 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What things relax you? What are the things you do when you are stressed out and need a break?

Watching Bob Ross, Luke Towan and Li Ziqi videos.
Drinking tea.

Videos can be really relaxing. Never been able to do tea, though. I've been told it is relaxing, but I really don't like the taste.

Luke Towan is great! Hanabira is similarly relaxing.

Music is the only way I can handle driving. Otherwise it is way too stressful. I think life should have a soundtrack in general. I love listening to my ipod.

Same :). Either that or watch sitcoms I love.

Games are fun. I haven't played that one, though.

if it's above 65 degrees, go out and take a long walk. just. walk. not necessarily at exercise pace but sometimes. I live in a fairly quiet area of neighborhoods with lots of parks so it's very relaxing to get out of the house, away from my source of stress, and breathe fresh air.

I used to do that in Boston. Way too hot here in San Antonio, though. Plus our street is uphill.

Videos of cats purring, it de-stresses me in a way nothing else does and I can literally feel the tension melting out of me.

Cat videos in general work for me. Dog videos work too, and other animals. But cat videos especially. And being near my cat too.

Drink a hot and/or cold beverage (as appropriate based on weather). Go and spend time in a garden or a park.

I drink hot coffee every morning, regardless of the weather. Parks are nice. It is really too hot here in San Antonio most of the time for me to want to spend much time outdoors, though.

I only occasionally drink alcohol. But sometimes it really hits the spot. I mixed spiced rum with my diet rootbeer tonight. I feel very relaxed right now. After my stressful week it is really nice.

Hot tea (but only in cool weather).

Going to the gym (not so relaxing during, but I feel relaxed after).

Being in nature, even if it's just the park down the street or my backyard.

Watching old episodes of MST3K. (I find laughing relaxing.)

Inhale for the count of three, hold it for the count of three, exhale for the count of three. Repeat three times.

Nature can be very relaxing. For me it is water. The beach or rivers/lakes. Just the sound and/or sight of water relaxes me every time. Also nighttime and looking up at the stars. That's very relaxing for me.

The breathing thing is what I was always taught to do when I'm having a panic attack.

Sleep is nice, though. I'm about to go to bed. I never go to bed at 8:30. I rarely get to bed before 11. I haven't had a good night sleep in a week. Sleep is underrated.
