It’s honestly not a terribly bad assumption when the music of most period stuff is anachronistic, which is why using modern music is fine.

Fine for you. Does it really bother you so much that OP might have different preferences? The secret even says that "roughly around the same time period" would've been okay with the OP, so they're okay with some degree of anachronism, just not modern music applied to a period drama. That seems fair to me. But even if it didn't, I'm puzzled as the logic behind telling someone else that you know better than they do what they'd be fine with.
