Same. Tell us what the reader is supposed to be picturing! Upfront and clearly, not in roundabout allusions or buried in a footnote.

Sometimes it feels like writers have their own mental images so clearly, they forget "this isn't part of canon, so other fans don't already know it, and they can't read my mind to find out."

Does this happen often? I think every daemon AU I've read has the specific species/breed of daemon mentioned either in the fic itself or the author notes, often accompanied by a link or an image so the reader can see exactly what the writer pictured.
