Really? Granted, I haven't watched a lot of dramatic reads in general, but I wouldn't have thought people would make passages up. One or two for comedy purposes, but not almost all of them.

And like I said, I got most of my knowledge of the books from Jenny Trout and other reviewers who quote large excerpts from the text, which would probably be enough to give you a sense of the story and prose without having to read it yourself. I'd explore that route first if you can.
