I think what the comment and secret OP mean is that it's a Norwegian series (I guess?) and therefore they figure that it's tailored to a particular audience who happens to find rape and gay jokes funny

Historically the Nordic people were mostly even in the treatment of the sexes. At least from what I've read up on... I don't know much about this show, but the ancients were generally more lenient all around. It's mostly modern culture that can't fathom women being in power, or people like Alexander the Great not being straight. For a long time women Viking warriors were thought to be men just because the were buried with their weapons, for instance. I'm not entirely sure though.
