I got into Harry Potter right when it came out - I was, not to put to fine a point on it, a fan before it was cool.
When the first book had just come out, I took it into my grade 3 class and asked my teacher to read some to the class. I was an awkward and unpopular kid, so none of my classmates were enthused - but they got into it pretty quick! In the end, my teacher bought a new copy of the book to replace the one I'd brought in, which had gotten a little battered from classroom life, and she wrote a nice little note in the front thanking me for introducing my class to Harry Potter.
