I'm a big fan of ignoring canon all over the place. But I do get what you're saying and I tend to agree.

For some reason once my ship gets together in canon I find it harder to ignore canon and substitute my own headcanon. I will still totally do it - but I feel like my imagination tends to get a bit sluggish about it. I feel like if I'm ever going to hit a "why do I ship this so hard in the first place?" wall, it's likely to happen after my ship becomes canon and isn't handled well.

I've always called myself a Godot shipper. I do, theoretically, want my ship to get together eventually. Just not now. I want them to get together at some theoretical future point, preferably not too long before the story ends.
