Though I don't mind subverting canon in many ways and I'm all for canon divergent AUs, once a couple becomes canon, I kind of feel much less like exploring their relationship. There's a been there, done that, sense to it, for me. And then they sometimes become just part of the setting in any fic I write in that fandom exploring other character relationships. I also have a hard time breaking up serious canon relationships, unless they are on-again, off-again anyway.
