Crazy. Why was everyone else who was supposed to be there so late?

AYRT—everyone who was supposed to be there first thing consisted of me and one other person, who had a key, but called in sick (to the answering machine in the building, so nobody knew) which is what you’re supposed to do 90% of the time, just not when you’re in charge because the boss is on vacation and your new coworker has no keys.

He must’ve forgotten that he was in charge that day and would need to let the weekend regional supervisor know if he called out so someone could fill in for him.

One of the people who let the me and the manager from the other location in was scheduled to start an hour after we opened, another came in on his day off when he got word of what was going on, and the manager at the next nearest location came as soon as one of the people I’d called got word to him.

When I couldn’t get ahold of the regional managers, I’d started calling all the locations I’d worked at and people there started calling other locations until they got ahold of someone with a key to the building, and a manager who had enough people at his location that he could stay with me and my new coworkers, since none of us were supervisors so we weren’t allowed to run the place ourselves.
