It is fair season in a bunch of places

What are your favorite fair foods?

Funnel cakes. I haven't had one in years and would probably get sick after eating one now, but goddamn are they good. Other than that, sign me up for all the sweet stuff. Cotton candy, caramel apples, shaved ice... I'm going into a food coma just typing this post, lol.

Funnel cakes are really the only thing I like. Even though I am done after 4-5 bites.

I actually... don't know? I've only really been to a couple of fairs and the only fair food I remember is funnel cake, which I think is OVERRATED and worse than just getting donuts. And I've never liked corn dogs even when I was a kid.

I guess deep fried Oreos are all right if you only have a single one. IDK I'm not trying to be some kind of snob I love greasy food I just don't know what good fair food is.

Horse blankets!! Which are apparently only A Thing at the annual fair where I grew up. They're a "blanket" of deep fried dough sprinkled with icing sugar and cinnamon. They're relatively cheap for fair food. Maybe like $3, max, and big enough I could probably only eat two of them. So delicious!

I know those by the name elephant ears.

Oh hey, cool. Seems like that's the more common name for them. I think my hometown fair calls them horse blankets because it's a very farmland type of fair with a lot of farm animal exhibits and horse shows and things. So horse blankets are much more on-brand. But they're definitely the same thing as elephant ears.

What sort of fairs are you talking about? County fairs?

DEEP FRIED CHEESE CURDS BABY

honestly I don't know why but it took me over 20 years to find a place that made cheese curds as good as fair cheese curds. turns out it's a little food truck that only does cheese curds and nothing else, and they've won awards for how good that shit is. we're talkin real beer-batter style, all oozy and gooey and salty, none of this crispy hard shell cheese curd shit. I mean I'll eat crispy-shell fried curds if that's all there is but it's not Wisconsin county fair cheese curds if they're in a crunchy shell.
