Poor Katara, always the fandom bicycle. I like her as an independent woman more than paired off with anyone. :(

Though you know... maybe Fandom Wank has tainted me, but where are these arrogant Kataangers I always hear about? I mean... I guess they must be out there since I always hear about them. But I'm fairly active in the Avatar fandom and I never see them. I've run into the stereotypical batshit Zutara fans NUMEROUS times, but I've never come across any Kataang fans who were arrogant about their ship. Maybe I'm just lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) or maybe I'm not hanging around in the "right" part of the fandom. I dunno, but I'm skeptical any fandom base for an Avatar ship can be as bad as the Zutara one. (Sorry for the generalization, but I've only met very few who didn't bite my head off for shipping Kataang and Maiko alongside Zutara.)

But of course, in the end, everyone is inferior to Iroh. Everyone.

I think that a lot of the time, refusing to allow oneself to be labeled as a "pedo" comes across as "arrogant" for reasons that I'm not totally sure of. -_-

Or, you know, threatenning to beat up zutarians.

Taking Zutarian crack seriously and using it as proof as to why all Zutarians suck and don't understand canon. Insulting art or fic, just because it's Zutara, and saying things like 'don't you know it's not canon! Give it up' etc etc. Pretty much almost any time a zutaran makes any criticism or comment about Avatar, some smug kataanger will reply. Look at some of the snarky/rude replies to the previous post, just because someone has a different veiw point on what makes a healthy, interesting relationship. Some like conflict, other like easy going fluff ships.

And this comment of yours. Pretty much dismissing the claim in the secret, because obviously the kataangers are good little fluffy shippers who would never do wrong, so it must be a misinterpretation by, may I add, some one who doesn't even ship zutara or kataang.

.....um....I have never seen anyone threaten violence against anyone else in fandom? But maybe I've just lucked out?

A lot of people have behaved badly on all sides, as has been said a few times in the comments for this post. I don't think there's any excuse for being a jerk, but of course people will disagree with secrets that get posted here sometimes. I'm sorry not everyone's as polite about it as they could be?

This comment of mine? I'm really not sure what you even mean by this last paragraph, actually. A few days ago someone posted a secret (not phrased in a nice way, incidentally) about how all people who ship Aang and Toph with anyone are "pedos" and Katara is also a "pedo" for being romantically interested in Aang on the show. Disagreeing with that secret has nothing to do with thinking ANY shippers are good and fluffy, it just means I disagree with what the OP said. Which has nothing to do with my or anyone else's ship preferences. I just disagreed.

I don't understand why "give up it's not canon" is an insult. Yeah okay so? I ship Zuko/Sokka not because it's canon but because ~~it's freaking hot~~ I like their dynamic. Any comments to the effect of ZOMG NOT CANON would be met with a "yeah so what?"

Maybe not arrogant, but I think comparing Zutarians to Azula is fairly nutty.

No...it happens. I have seen pockets of it on the DH forums, I know it happens on 4chan (had an anon rep come from there just to tell me they thought I was right), and I'm pretty sure I saw bits of it on Avatarspirit.net--basically, the minute I saw it, I did what I did when I saw Zutara wank.

LOL! I know someone who left because they hated Mai&Maiko being bashed constantly. Doesn't seem like a_f is a friend to many ships really :\

I have to say, it did seem like every time someone said something about Zutara in

avatar_fans they'd get jumped on. Sometimes they deserved it but I've seen it happen to a person who simply posted a link to the Zutara comms. It may not just be Kataang fans but it happened.

I know quite a few people--rational, adult, I-simply-prefer-these-two-together people--who felt like second-class citizens on that comm and left because they didn't enjoy that. I've heard things about Avatarspirit.net too, but I've never been on those forums so I wouldn't know for sure.

As a kataanger I feel like a second-class citizen. Which is funny considering the secret posted. I don't feel smug. I just usually feel looked down upon because I like Kataang.

That sucks. I think that comm sucks for shippers in general.

Really, no one should be made to feel belittled or looked-down upon or stupid because they enjoy a particular ship. The Avatar fandom never seemed to learn how to live and let live.
