I think the problem especially with a lot of the Kataangers is that there is a need to still defend the ship - even more so now I think because of the utter post-finale hatred towards it which seems to have taken on a life of its own and extends to not just the ship, but the shippers, the creators, and the characters.

I think the blood in the water would have been a lot less if the Zutarian community had just gracefully said: "Congrats, you won canon." and then blissfully went about celebrating the love of their ship not by tearing down other ships and the show, but by just enjoying their ship. Unfortunately it seems the more vocal ones want to constantly shove it in the faces of rival shippers about how they are supposedly superior to everyone else and anyone who cannot grasp that is a pedo-shipping loser.

Is that any reason for Kataangers to troll Zutarian sites and fan work and pick fights and make assholes of themselves - no, of course not. But the anger and resentment didn't come from nowhere. And anger and resentment breeds hostility and bad behavior. And both sides seem to have that down well.

Sure, you're absolutely right. I know quite a few Zutarians who did behave gracefully...but you notice that when it comes to a large fandom, we only ever remember the loud, obnoxious crazy ones. D:

There was wank from both sides before the finale, and it will continue after the finale. There will still be rabid Zutarians who are going to be upset that they invested so much of themselves into their OTP, and it didn't happen. There are going to be canon-shippers who are gonna jump all over them and ridicule them because of the aforementioned vindication, regardless of how poorly their ship came to be in the show. Basically, if everyone just left their E-dicks out of online fandom, the internet would be a much more fan-friendly environment.

But then again, that's also akin to asking for world peace, so...D:

Personally, I don't think anyone won the ship war, canon or not. The only way to win at shipping at this point is fanon--and this applies to the Kataang/Maiko/Sukka camp as well. For srs, I've seen the fans do the romance a million times better than what Bryke did--which brings be back to my original point.

Or perhaps there are kataangers who truly feel that the show turned out beautifully and the way the ship was handled was great, especially considering the focus of the show was not romance.

That is another issue I think that has been breeding resentment - that the ship was handled badly. A lot of kataangers seem to be very happy with how it was and would just like to enjoy that rather than have to wade through the endless criticism. It seems more people would rather criticize than actually let a satisfied Kataanger explain their position.

I know you thought it was handled poorly as stated in your post, but I think you could probably state your position thoughtfully and without tearing down the ship. The rest of the fandom...eh...I have little faith.

True, there is always that, but then my own personal bias shows through. I am sorry. D:

I understand not wanting their squee being harshed on, I really do--which is why I don't say anything to my Flist about it because I want them to be able to enjoy the show. I loved the show, or otherwise I wouldn't care--but I just can't get around how many things were handled. In actuality, shipping is actually a very small part of my gripes with the third season.

I hope I didn't come off as bashing Kataang or anything--I really didn't mean to, as I have said--I didn't like the way it was executed. I actually didn't like the way any of the ships were executed--but Kataang was really the only one that's being discussed here, so...

By the by, do I happen to know you? You seem pretty cool, anon! :3
