You retain water better if you don't guzzle it but drink it with food.

Try something with electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, and phosphate). Watermelon and cucumbers not only have water, but magnesium, calcium, sodium, and potassium. According to a study, eating cucumber or watermelon is two times more effective in hydrating the body than a glass of plain water.
