I disagree. It's clearly NOT portrayed that way and I think it's a little to easy for the anti-Owenettes to glom onto that moment.

And we don't know for a fact that bar-chick or her boyfriend wouldn't have been all over the hot Dr. Harper anyway. (Gwen and Dianne ~~and Jack~~ didn't need too much encouragement.)

Assuming its true then the EXACT SAME criteria would have to be used for 51st century pheremones, would it? And we can't have that.

Thanks. To me this is one of the worst canards of TW fandom, right up there with "Jack couldn't love (fill in one) Gwen/Owen/Tosh/ as much as he loves Ianto (PUKE!) because he sees them as (wait for it) a daughter/son/sister/brother. WHATEVER.

While I do love Jack/Ianto, I don't love the majority of their fandom. And I am a HUGE supporter of Jack/Owen as well. ;P Jack/anyone/anything/cheese sandwich is also generally appealing, although I'm not a Jack/Gwen fan. I like Rhys/Gwen too much. But I'll defend Owen to the death any day.

Bottom line, though: I don't believe the majority of Torchwood fans are watching the same show I'm watching.

I think the fact that she SAID NO is a pretty big clue that she, in fact, wouldn't have been all over him.

She said no to a drink, and was pretty ambiguous about anything else.

OWEN HARPER: Hello.

LINDA: All right?

OWEN HARPER: You having a good time?

LINDA: I was.

OWEN HARPER: (nods) Can I buy you a drink?

LINDA: No, thanks, I'm fine.

(She takes a sip of her own drink.)

OWEN HARPER: Am I wasting my time?

LINDA: I dunno, are you?

But he didn't give either of them a chance to say yes or no. He just used the spray. And the woman in the bar made it clear that she wasn't interested. You can still like the character and acknowledge the reality of what he did, you know.

I don't know how you got "anti-Owenette" out of my comment. As I said, the writers simply didn't completely think through the implications of that scene. I like Burn Gorman and Owen's storyline, but not the alien spray segment.

It's really creepy and rather sad that you choose to be patronising and defensive rather than attempt to understand why people would have a problem with that scene.

Well, at least you acknowledge that the woman didn't say "no."

As you can see from the above-quoted transcript, she said no-to a drink.

All possible, but bottom line---Secret said out and out "Owen is a rapist"
MY POINT-Clearly, he isn't.

He coerced two people into having sex. They did not give their consent and he had sex with them anyway. That's what a rapist does. It is creepy and sad that you don't get that.

And yes, you were patronising.

Look, I get that you like the character. That's fine. But you can't pretend that Owen hasn't raped people. Well, actually you can, since that's what you're doing but don't be surprised when you're called on it.

Finally, while she said no to the drink, her tone, body language and demeanour made it clear she wasn't interested in anything else either. The boyfriend also wasn't interested in having sex with Owen. Neither of them were asked if they wanted to have sex with Owen. He made them do it anyway. He raped them.

I won't respond again but I really hope that you try and understand this and that you're not so dismissive of sexual assault in RL. *fingers crossed*
