I think the point was that it was disappointing to find out that his awesome English accent was coming from an American. I personally think it just makes him more talented, since he was able to pull off such a convincing accent. You don't usually expect an English accent to come out of someone with a Southern twang. And I was born in the south, used to have the twang, so I certainly don't believe Southerners=rednecks. ;)

Actually my aunt always believe it's easier to imitate an English accent if you had a Southern accent. And vice versa if you used Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver doing convincing Southern accent as one example.

I've heard that too. If you've listened to enough Southerners, then they do sound alike sometimes.

Actually, I think it's mostly trying to imagine someone we all spent forever think of as the poised, dapper (sarcastic) British butler/manservent with a Southern twang/drawl. I love Southern accents and pretty much every other accent in the world, but that is hell to wrap my head around with that character. O_o
