162. It probably wouldn't bother me nearly enough if not for the post-DH outing of DD. "I support gays--but not enough to actually deal with the issue in the books."

Why should she have dealt with the issue in the book? I think she dealt with it fabulously, personally. The way she presented Dumbledore was a fabulous way of dealing with it, in my opinion.

By not outright presenting him as gay in the books but later explaining that he was a-sexual but also gay.

Not pandering to a whiny and entitled fanbase =/= being an homophobe. How dare she write the story the way she wants. =P

Or she simply couldn't fit it in without seeming preachy. She had black Asian, and Indian characters but didn't explicitly talk about racism either. But the whole series talked about bigotry, which, in my mind, covers all the bases.

She couldn't put in gay characters the same way she put these characters in the background without being preachy? Gay shouldn't automatically mean preachy. Bigotry does cover all the bases (or at least it should--homophobic readers would absolutely disagree) but a gay character doesn't have to be all about dispelling bigotry.

I'm not saying she had to have gay characters at all--she should write whatever characters she wants to write. It just seems weird to say "heteronormative" doesn't at all fit a series with dozens of examples of het attraction going on in the background and with the main characters but no gay characters--except for the one guy whose one gay attraction (as per interviews) is a major focus of one book but the gay attraction part is left out.
