Wouldn't Slytherin be wind? For no other reason than 9 times out of 10 wind is represented as green? Ravenclaw would be water, Hufflepuff earth, and Gryffindor fire?

Ravenclaw's animal is a raven (which flies) and their common room is very high and airy, whereas Slytherin's animal is a snake (there are many aquatic snakes) and their common room is in a dungeon near a lake. For reference, Hufflepuff's common is underground and their animal is a badger which burrows in a den underground. Gryffindor isn't quite as direct, I think because it's the protagonist house, but at least you can say lions are from sunny climates.

I also think the values of the houses line up with the values of the elements but that's obviously going to be more of an argument.
