I guess I'd prefer it ambiguous either way. The ending of that movie was devastating and I still get choked up thinking about it, but I also don't like complex stories to have a firm happily ever after either, especially when the characters are young and have experienced trauma.

Stand By Me is one of my favorite movies and the ending is perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. But it guts me every single time and I always get teary-eyed.
