I mean, religious horror has been a sizeable subgenre of horror for quite a while? Mythological horror in general as well. Is there something more specific to this set of games than 'horror with a sprinkling of Catholic flavour on top'?

Because just looking at the description for this one, it seems more 'Dark Souls meets Silent Hill' than anything specifically aimed at RL Christians or anything.

It really IS more Dark Souls meets Silent Hill than anything else, honestly. I've been watching an LPer go through it and the Christianity is mostly window dressing horror and it's great.

Eh, I don’t know. As someone that came from an abusive Christian upbringing, and with how lauded and goddamned near expected being a Good Christian is in most parts of this country, every single bit of media that validates my own experience (and especially lets me work through it, like video games do) is like a weight off my shoulders. It reminds me that I’m not alone, and I’m not wrong, and sometimes it is bad.

We don't have to play the same games.

I'm sorry your poor Christian fee-fees were hurt.

[Not OP] I'm sorry you feel the need to be such a dick about something you don't even know is the case. Or is that OK for atheists?

(Anonymous) 2019-09-24 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, because everyone knows there are only two options here: christian or atheist. Other religions and agnosticism are just a mirage.

As someone who both grew up in an abusive Christian environment and still identifies as Christian, I don't see a problem. The bad kind of Christian environment does exist. It totally makes sense that people who grew up that way would want to deal with their trauma by making and/or enjoying art based on it.

and equally that some people get fed up with it.

Absolutely.
