Paul and Prue taste them, Noel and Sandi don't. But in the original show, Mel and Sue always sampled as they went and reassured bakers that they were doing a great job and generally showed their appreciation for the bakes. It really helped with morale.

Hmm, I'd definitely agree with the secret then. Host kinda have to rely on contestant interaction to be effect, imo. What better way to host a cooking show than meaningful feedback on what they're being judged on... Strange they stopped that with the new hosts.

The judges taste everything. The hosts don't have to, it's just that the old ones often did.
