I left the details out of the secret so it wouldn't be huge, but I am a big believer in providing receipts, so...

The E.L. James thing: Jenny first started getting attention when she started reading/reviewing the 50 Shades series a chapter at a time. While there was plenty to dislike about the books, one thing she kept bringing up was that E.L. James was a plagarist. I always thought that wasn't quite the right wording, since I've always been told that plagarism is taking someone else's text and claiming it's yours. What James did (filing the serial numbers off a fanfic) is a little iffy, but I wouldn't call it plagarism.

Jenny's reviews became very popular, leading to a revitalizing of her author career. Capitalizing on this, she started writing a series of BDSM books to sort of thumb her nose at E.L. James, in a "this is how you do BSDM right" way. So in a sense, she's piggybacking off another author, much like James was. But that wasn't what got me; what got me what when she wrote a book called "Say Goodbye to Hollywood", that was about a screenwriter being called on to adapt a bestselling erotic novel, and butting heads with the author...who gets accused of plagarism.

I know that novels featuring thinly disguised celebrities have been a thing for a long time, but I just found it hypocritical that she'd call James a plagarist, then go out and write a book that's clearly modeled after a real person.

The gun thing: During the time I was reading her (because I actually did like her writing style), she got into two separate twitter beefs with gun owners. And neither side covered themselves in glory either time. But the incident that made me quit her journal was as follows.

In April 2018, Jenny got temporarily banned from Twitter after getting into a fight with gun owners. She'd started it by saying the NRA is a terrorist organization, and when people started getting mad at her over it (using insults and threats, which is obviously not cool), she doubled down by saying all guns should be melted down and all NRA members and Trump supporters should be drowned in the slag. This naturally led to more ugliness and the temporary banning, at which point she took to her journal to explain all this (http://jennytrout.com/?p=12039), and offer really insincere apologies, including the line "I'm sorry your mother's abortion didn't take". She really didn't come off well to me, but I might have been willing to brush it off as our personalities not meshing in this one area...

...if it wasn't for the fact that three months earlier, she had made a post detailing her experiences with the most toxic person she'd ever met (http://jennytrout.com/?p=11969). In that post, she was partially responsible for getting the toxic woman's child taken away from her, and was threatened for it. And in order to keep herself safe "I made sure our gun and ammo was in our bedroom closet, just in case."

This may very well be a case of people and opinions changing as they get older (the incident with the toxic person had happened some years back), and if Jenny had acknowledged that at some point during her anti-gun rant, I'd have been more ok with it. As it stood, though, I found it so damn hypocritical that I bailed.

I mostly ignore her nowadays, but occasionally I'm reminded of her, and while I wish her no ill-will, the memories of the gun thing (and the comments section that was completely on her side and didn't seem to want to take any gun owner seriously) annoy me, so I thought making a secret and venting about it would allow me to get it out of my system and move on.

Hypocrisy is more of a 'nope, outta here' for me than most other bad behavior.

Huh. I barely know who this lady is but if it's who I think it is, I've always found her humor a little too over the top to be funny. But this is pretty crappy of her.

I'm not from the USA and looking from outside your gun problem really is crazy. Especially as it can be rectified by at least decreasing the amount of weapons that you have. But instead, gun nuts (mainly led by the NRA) keep insisting there is no problem, despite countless mass shootings on now a practically weekly basis! From this pov yes, I think the NRA can be seen as a terrorist organisation.
Trump and his supporters...I have yet to find one that can justifying liking that hideous man. I don't justify them being murdered but I do believe the world would be a far better place if they were placed in an island somewhere (with a big wall around it) to hurt each other as they will and leave the rest of us in peace. Trump himself and his political cronies I hope will be eventually placed in prison.
I have never heard of this chick but from what your writing of her 'crimes' I like her. As for her being a 'hypocrite' meh people are shades of grey. I may check her out...

"People should get rid of guns and this chick said the same thing, while keeping guns, but meh I guess if she SAYS the right things who cares what she does? Shades of gray and all that."

Fixed it for you.
