In a similar vein I'm also kinda tired of how all the 'heroes' have to be assholes too. I miss heroes who could be flawed but were ultimately trying to do the right thing rather than having all the protagonists being different flavors of asshole because that's more 'realistic' or whatever. I'm not reading fantasy for fucking realism, give me a cast I can root for.

Same, nonny. I don't mind characters having flaws, but at the end of the day I like my good guys to be... good? Or at least trying real hard to be good?

That's why I couldn't make it through the Game of Thrones books. I got about halfway into the first book and realized I hated every character and didn't want to spend my time reading about them.
