Re: Unexpected FUBARs in films

Yep. That love duet was way to early and way too perfect to be real. And then he mentioned he was last in line for the throne. Any more foreshadowing than that, and the complaints would be that the foreshadowing was too obvious.

At the very least, the "love duet" was a big tell for this sudden love confession being fake. They made him very obviously follow a "this is love-at-first-sight" script that he kept changing to agree with whatever nonsense Anna was spouting to keep stringing her along.

There's a leap between "hey, maybe this guy isn't really into Anna and/or isn't what he seems" and "THIS GUY IS EVIL AND WANTS HIS OWN KINGDOM AND IS SICK OF BEING LAST IN LINE, HE'S PUTTING ON AN ACT FOR EVERYONE AND HOPES NOBODY CATCHES ONTO HIS PLOT TO MURDER BOTH SISTERS AND TAKE OVER THE THRONE"

The latter is not a clever revelation. It's just really lazy writing.

I said "at the very least", meaning him turning out to be not into Anna and only after her for political gain is definitely obvious from the song. The rest... eh mmv. But him turning out to be not as nice as he seemed was not entirely out of the blue, as some ITT are implying.

The whole murder plot was kinda an extreme jump but Elsa's whole meltdown (ha) was pretty extreme as well- so it had all around inconsistent writing, imo.

I didn't say Hans not being nice came out of the blue. I said him suddenly being the true villain was out of the blue.

I don't understand this argument. Elsa's "whole meltdown" was extreme but it doesn't make sense to call it an inconsistent part of the writing. At least the audience was shown the reason for it and it didn't come out of nowhere.

Not to mention, he pretty much had to turn out to be some variety of evil in order to justify Anna ditching him for the guy she was obviously supposed to be with in the end. It’s a Disney Princess movie. The choice is never between two good men.
