What people are ignoring is that John has been the one content in Rodney's life for the last five years! (Yes I know Teyla and Radek have been there to but not to the same extent). So of COURSE Rodney is going to remember John and the fact that John is always there!

You know what? The OP isn't harming you with their belief in Rodney's feelings for Sheppard. And also, subtext is there to be read whichever damn way anyone chooses. Privileging authorial intent? Um. No thanks.

Feel free to have your opinion and stop stomping on other people's rights to have theirs.

Look, I'm not saying that Rodney can't possible love John. All I'm suggesting is that people are taking a perfectly normal reaction (Rodney seeking John out because John is familiar) and adding more to it than is really there.

And this person isn't harming you or the OP by stating their opinion. If the OP wants to truly believe their fanon ship is suddenly canon, that's their right, I suppose. However, some of us also have the right to state our opinion on it.

FYI: this is the OP.

Look, you don't have to agree with me. I'm not forcing my view on anyone.

That being said, you just mentioned yourself that there were other constants in Rodney's life around in his time of need that would have been happy to comfort him. You also admitted that them comforting Rodney wouldn't be the same as John doing it. Rodney clearly views his relationship with John to be the most important one in his life and finds him easier to be around, is more willing to discuss personal matters with him, and generally thinks of John first/goes to John first when things go wrong. I'm not saying that automatically equals a romantic relationship or being in love for all characters in all situations; I'm saying that in this particular instance, with these particular characters, that's what I see. If Rodney weren't Rodney and John weren't John, then I might see just two close friends. But I don't. Both John and Rodney seem to be more affectionate and seem to be more emotionally invested in each other than they are with anyone else. To a deeper degree, you might say. And John and Rodney being John and Rodney, to me? That implies something more. (That's certainly not the extent of it, but not the point.)

If you don't like it, that's fine by me, but I can't force myself to see something that to me, is clearly there, and also very real. Just as you can't force yourself to see it. So get off my case.

I have nothing against the ship or the people who ship it. Hell, I even enjoy the occasional McShep fic myself. But just because two characters have a very good friendship, it doesn't necessarily mean they're sleeping with each other.

I'm not saying they couldn't potentially work (although I personally see the two as straight), but until there's solid evidence in canon that states otherwise, it's fanon.
