All I could think of was “why.”

I realise I’m alone in this, but I’ve always hated Ziva and was so glad when she died.

Why was she on the team? She’s always been a violent hothead and a foreign agent with shady motivations on whose loyalties you couldn’t rely, not an NCIS agent. How was she ever allowed into the agency, let alone to stay on after incident after incident?

Also, her and Tony. In know most people hate this ship bc they think she’s too good for him, but I hate it for the opposite reason. If her and Tony’s genders had been reversed, she’d have been called out as an abusive bully, but Woman being violent at Man and isolating him at work/in his group of friends is fun and her being badass and showing up that womanizer. Ugh. And she kept their daughter a secret from him, and her father from the girl? If I didn’t know she was a shitty person before I knew it then. And if I have to listen to one more “she was like a daughter to Gibbs/sister to McGee” I will break something. Care about someone who deserves it.

BS: The fact that I still watch this shitfest of a show. What am I, a middle-aged white American who likes conservative propaganda?

Re: them wrecking Ziva's character in absentia, they always do that when a person leaves the show. Would they ever have Ziva withhold the baby's parenthood if she was standing there pregnant while appearing on the show? No. But after she's gone, it's easy to for writers to crap all over a character. And to give Tony parental motivation on top of it, well.

Cheap, bad writing.

I don't hate her, but I agrre with a lot of your points.

And while I don't subscribe to the notion of anyone deserving anyone else or being too good for them, I do think the relationship between them (as coworkers, as friends, and as sexual partners) is unhealthy and that he has suffered more from it than she has. And she never should have been allowed to work for NCIS again after Rivkin (and that should have been the last straw in any kind of relationship with Tony) - and that was way the hell back at the end of season 6.

But, really, nearly everyone on the show is horribly flawed (I stopped watching before last season) and that all feeds into their relationships.

I disliked both her and Tony and hated their ship. But I gave up this show years ago. The only characters I ever liked were Ducky, Abby, and McGee.

I was never a fan of Ziva either and never understood how she could be on the team legally speaking-wise.

She hadn't had any investigative training, there was no mention of her even doing a quick FLETC course or anything. Even before she was found to have committed treason how could any case she worked on have gone to trial successfully? Any decent lawyer could argue about chain of custody and evidence collection and possible tainting of evidence etc. It just made zero sense to have a Mossad agent in an NCIS investigative unit (aside from her ties to Ari and whatnot).

I liked her, but I didn't like her and Tony. (Mostly because of Tony, although apparently I bailed before most of the stuff you mention Ziva doing badly for the relationship, so maybe I would have hated it because of both of them if I had stuck it out.)

I'm actually really surprised this is an unpopular opinion in fandom these days. One of the reasons I bailed years ago was when compiling the NCIS newsletter I always saw so much Ziva bashing and Tony worship and it turned me off of the fandom and helped turn me off the show. I wouldn't have thought then that views would flip so much.

As someone who bailed on NCIS all the way back when Kate died and resented Ziva on principle (and resented her more and more every time I said Kate was my favorite character and someone would reply "Ziva's better, though!"), I thank you for this secret, OP. I now feel vindicated.
