this is a lot

I can't imagine such a relationship being anything other than a completely ridiculous mess of insane drama from all 3 parties really

(Anonymous) 2019-10-13 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they're both fantastic writers, but yeah, I agree.

Same, all three of them are drama llamas to the extreme. Though I can easily imagine Fitzgerald telling everyone Zelda is fine with it (until Zelda shows up with a knife and battles Hemingway).

lmao, that's exactly what would happen

(Anonymous) 2019-10-13 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
probably because if they admit Fitzgerald treated Zelda hideously in real life in general, it would make shipping him less fun

and if you're fictionalizing everything for your own entertainment you might as well use it to deal with the inconvenience of marriage

Zelda treated Fitzgerald horribly too. Making her into a "feminist icon" is genuinely a bad idea when you hear the kinds of things she used to do.

not sure where you're getting "feminist icon" out of my comment, but okay

portraying their marriage and Zelda in particular accurately is not conducive to escapist fun, regardless of whether she was a Pure and Simple Ideological Victim or a living human with flaws and sins and scars who was still gaslit and plagiarized by her husband

anyway NOW she's one of my feminist icons, thanks for helping me connect those dots
