American bread being so full of sugar that it tastes like cake. Even the "whole wheat" stuff was super-sweet, it made sandwiches weird. But it made great toast!

You can get bread in America without added sugar or other sweeteners, but it’s usually more expensive.

It's like fast food hamburger bun! It's so weird.

It depends on where you get your bread. I get sandwich bread at a local bakery and it doesn’t taste like sugar, but a lot of the brands in the store do taste really sweet.

I never had a problem finding bread without lots of sugar in America. Definitely don't go for white bread, but if you go to a store with a big selection like Safeway, you'll be fine.

Now, in Japan it's almost impossible to find bread without sugar as a second ingredient. I had to give up having toast for breakfast because of it.

It's easy to find American bread that's not like that. Just avoid the super cheap stuff.

This reminds me of USHANKA show on YouTube. It's made by a guy who was born in the Soviet Union in 1970 and moved to the US in his 20s and he tells these stories (horror or mundane) of what it was like growing up in the USSR.'

The one thing he says was better in the USSR was the bread and bread culture. He was really shocked when he ate American bread for the first time.
