Yeah, how dare people

(Anonymous) 2019-10-14 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are all pretty normal flags...

(Anonymous) 2019-10-14 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Keep in mind it might have been a comment secret

They're, but you would be surprised how many "flags" are out there http://mogaipedia.wikidot.com/wiki:mogai

(Anonymous) 2019-10-15 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think the issue is less "these are the most obscure and ridiculous flags" and more "people overinvested in specific character sexuality headcanons to the point of making it their icon tend to be exhausting"

I'm not OP but that's the way it makes most sense to me

The point is that preemptively "claiming" a character for one of them is annoying.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You're better off. Steer clear.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-14 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm actually very much bored of all the picture sets where they just colour code the images with the sexuality they think the character has. It was cute at first, but after you see it about a hundred times with pretty much the exact same layout it gets very old very quick.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-15 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
TBH I agree with this, but I also think the over-the-top STEER CLEAR OF PEOPLE WHO DO THIS stuff is ridiculous.

I'm IN the community. (Bi represent!) But I think the flags are just dumb.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-15 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
LOL people do that? I must be in different fandoms or (thankfully) already have them all blocked.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-15 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Genderqueer flag is fugly.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-15 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
ngl but I can't (and don't bother to) keep all these flags memorized. They're just 'oh. one of those people.' on sight now.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-15 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I will agree that Tumblr tends to a kind of performative wokeness, but that doesn't change the fact that icon choice is not a one-to-one correlation with same.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-15 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so many -phobes coming out of the woodwork.

I’m not on Tumblr much these days, but the one I avoid is variations on the AO3 tag, “[Character] is [sexuality/gender identity headcanon] i don’t make the rules]”. No summary will entice me to read.

I need to steer clear (or steer queer) because I feel like the number of tumblrs of this type that don't end up mired in wank (aka "discourse") is vanishingly small these days, and I'm out of forks when it comes to watching kids explain how all the other LGBTQ kids are regressive.

Same, I avoid them not because I'm against the headcanons but because from experience, people who have icons of them are violently possessive of their headcanons and will go into separate posts that contradict those headcanons just to bully and dogpile the OP. They're also almost always antis. Sucks for any nice people who have those icons to get that reputation, but when you get burned enough times...

LMAO, same. I usually find that those people are just SO exhausting to be around. Don't they ever get tired of being argumentative all the time?

Before people come at me, let me just say that I am a very out and proud bisexual woman, and this is just something that I have noticed while being online. These people are some of the ANGRIEST that I have ever come across and, nine times outta ten, I avoid gender/sexuality icons like the plague.

I find the tumblr usernames with [identity][charactername] to be much more of a possible red flag than anything else. They tend to be way too into the "fandom as activism" camp for me.

Personally I just find the flag icons boring.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, same.
